IIT Hyderabad PhD Admission 2026 (Jan)

IIT Hyderabad invites online applications for admission to PhD programs for Jan 2026 in various disciplines and streams offered by different departments of the institute.

Eligibility Criteria

Regular PhD Admissions

• For eligibility criteria read information brochure of respective department.
• Fellowship: As per the guidelines prescribed by MoE / other funding agencies from time to time.

Direct PhD (High CGPA) Admissions

• PhD Applications are invited from the meritorious students who have got a CGPA of 9.0 and above in their BTech /BE /BS /BDes /MSc from IITs, NITs, IISc , IISERs & CFTIs for admission to Direct PhD (High CGPA) program at IITH with high value Institute Fellowships.
• Fellowship: Rs 50,000 – JRF level(first 2 years) and Rs.55,000 -SRF level (3 years)

Application Process

Apply online at: https://www.iith.ac.in/phdadmissions/

The candidate has to apply separately, if desired to apply for both of the above categories of admissions. Also the candidate has to apply separately if he/she wants to apply in more than one Department.

Important Notice on Areas of Interest: For departments that have specified Areas of Interest, selecting them is mandatory during the application process. Some departments have categorized specific Areas of Interest, please refer to the brochure tab for details. While filling out your application, ensure that you prioritize your Areas of Interest in the designated section. This will help in the appropriate evaluation of your application. For CIP programs, please refer to the Areas of Interest / project document and write only TWO project numbers of your choice in the given tab ‘Area of Interest’. In case of non-submission of the same, the application may not be considered further.

Steps to Apply Online

• Step 1 – Registration
  • Registration Page will ask you to provide a valid login id, email address and password. Please note that we will use this email address for further communication with you.
• Step 2 – Login in to the System
  • Please Provide the login id and password which you had chosen at the time of Registration with the system. (When ever you login first time our system will ask you for secret key which you received through the email at the time of registration).
• Step 3 – Click on Apply
  • Click on the link ‘Click here to apply’ and Choose the department by clicking on arrow of corresponding department
• Step 4 – Fill or update your application details
  • Fill or update your application details by clicking on appropriate arrows. Please note that once you fill or update the information in the appropriate form you need to click on either save/submit button so that your data will be stored in our system.
• Step 5 – Pay Application Fee
  • Pay Application fee
• Step 6 – Submit your application
  • Submit your application by clicking on ‘Submit Application’ button. Unless You submit the application by pressing the above button your application will not be considered. Merely saving (clicking the save button) the application will not be enough.
• Step 7 – Print Application
  • After submission you should take printout of your application by clicking on the ‘Print Application’ button.

Note

• If you are called for the Written test/Interview you need to carry all your documents, printout of your application , payment reference document and certificates with you.
• One can apply to several departments. If you want to apply to several departments you need to fill a separate application for each department you want to apply. To fill your application for the department “XYZ” first login to our system and choose “XYZ” in the list of department names. Please note that you need to fill all your details for each department. Please note that you need to pay the application fee separately for each department.

Selection Process

• Respective Departments will follow their own shortlisting and selection process.
• The Department may offer admission under any other funding irrespective of applied funding as per candidate’s eligibility.
