Minimum Eligibility Qualification for admission to Regular Full-time PhD Program

The requirement of qualification in GATE / National level Exam is waived off for the following categories of applicants:

  • Candidates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) completed B.Tech./B.E./Integrated M.Tech./ Integrated M.Sc. program (or any other program of minimum four-year duration, admission to which is on the basis of JEE), must obtain a CGPA of 7.5 or above (on a 10-point scale) at the time of graduation, and before they formally register for the PhD program (75% aggregate marks, if marks is the primary mode of evaluation).

Part Time PhD

In addition to the eligibility criteria given under full-time PhD, the following are applicable in this category:

  • National level examinations such as GATE/NET etc. is not mandatory for admission. However, the Institute may conduct its own entrance test.
  • The candidate should have a minimum experience after B.Tech./M.Tech./M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent as on the last date for application for the session of admission.
  • The candidate is required to submit a NOC from the employer (if employed) clearly stating the following:
    • The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis.
    • The candidate’s official duties permit to devote sufficient time for research.
    • Facilities for research in the candidate’s field of research in the area in which admission is sought are available at the candidate’s place of work.
    • The candidate will be fully relieved from duty and permitted to reside at the Institute for the minimum residential requirement of the program.
  • If the candidate after joining PhD program changes the organization, the candidate should get NOC from the new employer as well.

Professional Experience: The minimum full time experience required after obtaining the qualifying degree and as on date of application deadline:

  • E/M.Tech: Nil
  • Tech./B.E. with valid GATE: Nil
  • E/B.Tech. from CFTIs/Central Universities: 1 Year
  • E/B.Tech. from institutions other than CFTIs/Central Universities: 2 Year

Selection Process

  • The written examination will be of 50 marks (50 multiple choice questions of 01 marks).
  • The syllabus of the written examination is GATE 2025 Syllabus (School of Computing: GATE Syllabus for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) 2025 for School of Computing).
  • The applicants who are GATE/NET Qualified may be exempted from the written test.
  • Original documents of age proof/degrees/mark sheets/experience must be presented at the time of Written Test and Interview.
  • Applicants in employment (private, government or any other organization) are required to submit a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer at the time of interview.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
  • Canvassing in any form will render a candidate ineligible.
  • Institute reserves the right to select or reject a candidate without assigning any reason/s thereof.
  • The institute reserves the right to defer or cancel the advertisement at any stage of processing without assigning any reasons, if required.
  • The institute reserves the right to place a reasonable limit on the total number of candidates to be called for interview. Mere fulfilment of qualification does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
  • No stipend will be paid by the institute for the selected candidates. However, the PhD scholars of the institute are encouraged to apply for various fellowships available from Gol and other agencies.
  • The applicant if shortlisted for the interview should submit the choice of the faculty member (regular) as a PhD Supervisor in the sealed envelope before the interview only.
