They conduct research in a work-integrated manner at their respective place of work.
    • Financial Support: Not eligible to receive any financial stipend/support from IIITS.
  2. External Sponsored Candidate from Industry (EX-IS)
    • Description: This category includes candidates sponsored and permitted by a recognized private/government/semi-government R&D organization, PSU, or private/government/semi-government industry/company, or any private/government/semi-government non-academic institution. They conduct research at IIITS.
    • Financial Support: Not eligible to receive any financial stipend/support from IIITS; they will receive support from their sponsoring organization.

    • Description: This category includes self-financed candidates who are permitted and employed by a recognized private (autonomous or university affiliated)/government (state or central)/semi-government academic institution.   2. Sponsored Candidate from Academic Institutions (S-A)
    • Description: This category includes candidates who are sponsored and permitted by a private (autonomous or university affiliated)/government (state or central)/semi-government academic institution, or sponsored under QIP schemes/other academic sponsorships. They conduct research at IIITS.
    • Financial Support: Not eligible to receive any financial stipend/support from IIITS; they will receive support from their sponsoring organization.

  • Intern Self Sponsored Candidates (SF-O)
    • Description: This category includes self-financed and unemployed candidates who will be conducting research at IIITS.
    • Eligibility: Eligible for admission with an M.Tech/M.S./ME/M.Sc/MA/Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or as per the eligibility mentioned in the Table of Eligibility, with respective thesis submission period and required coursework credits.
    • Financial Support: Not eligible to receive any financial stipend/support from IIITS.
  • Externally Funded or Sponsored or Project Staff Candidates (P-S)
    • Description: This category includes candidates who have received a fellowship, scholarship, or funding from private trusts/private industry/government or semi-government agency or department and are unemployed. Alternatively, it includes candidates working as SRF or JRF at IIITS under a funded research project. They will be conducting research at IIITS.
    • Eligibility: Eligible for admission with an M.Tech/M.S./ME/M.Sc/MA/Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or as per the eligibility mentioned in the Table of Eligibility, with respective thesis submission period and required coursework credits.
    • Financial Support: Not eligible to receive any financial stipend/support from IIITS. Instead, for SRF/JRF-like IIITS project staff, the stipend will be under the respective research grant, and for other candidates, the stipend will be through the scholarships or fellowships they receive.
  • Self-Financed Others (SF-O) – Visvesvaraya
    • Description: This category includes self-financed and unemployed candidates who will be conducting research at IIITS.
    • Eligibility: Eligible for admission with an M.Tech/M.S./ME/Master’s degree in relevant disciplines like CSE/IT/ECE, or as per the eligibility mentioned in the Table of Eligibility, with respective thesis submission period and required coursework credits.
    • Financial Support: Eligible to receive financial stipend/support from IIITS as per the funds granted under the Visvesvaraya Scheme sponsored by MeitY and their Terms and Conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

Industry Candidates (Ex-I / EX-IS)

  • Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):
    • Essential: Master’s Degree (e.g., M.Tech/M.E/ MCA+M.Tech) in relevant disciplines with First Class or 60% marks/CPI or CGPA greater than 6.75 (55% marks or 6 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10-point scale. AND Minimum 2 years of relevant Industry experience. Desirable: A valid GATE Score/Equivalent Exam. OR
    • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology with First Class or 60% marks/CPI or CGPA greater than 6.75 (55% marks or 6 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10-point scale AND Minimum 4 years of relevant Industry experience. Desirable: A valid GATE Score/Equivalent Exam.
  • Eligibility for All other Science/Mathematics and Humanities:
    • Essential: Master’s Degree (e.g., M.Sc/relevant master’s degree in science/allied/related subjects; M.A. in English/Linguistics or relevant disciplines or equivalent master’s degree in humanities/allied/related subjects) with minimum 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PwD)/CPI or CGPA greater than 6.75 (6 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10-point scale or its equivalent grade. AND Minimum 4 years of relevant Industry experience.
    • Desirable: A valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE/NET Score/Equivalent Exam.

Selection Process

  • Admission will be on the basis of written test and/or/both/ interview.
  • The department may decide to scrutinize the candidates by following different mechanism such as area of guide/candidate/ Statement of Purpose (SoP) presentation/departmental research strength etc.
  • For written test, latest GATE syllabus will be followed for CSE/IT/ECE/ Mathematics.
