Eligibility Criteria

Qualifying Degree

Computer Science Engineering
- M.Tech/M.E/ or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering / Information Technology/ Software Engineering / Electronics and Communication / Telecommunication / Electronics and Instrumentation /Electronics / Electronics and Electrical/Electrical with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) or equivalent in Master’s and preceding degree. Or
- B.E./B.Tech/MCA/M.Sc.(Computer Science) or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering / Information Technology/ Software Engineering / Electronics and Communication / Telecommunication /Electronics and Instrumentation /Electronics / Electronics and Electrical/Electrical with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) or equivalent in qualifying degree.
Electronics and Communication Engineering
- M.Tech/M.E or equivalent in Electronics Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering/ Electronics and Telecommunication/ Electronics and Instrumentation / Electronics and Electrical/ Electrical with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) or equivalent in Master’s and preceding degree. Or
- B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(Electronics) or equivalent in Electronics Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering/ Electronics and Telecommunication/ Electronics and Instrumentation / Electronics and Electrical/ Electrical with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) or equivalent in qualifying degree.
Mathematics
- Applicants with Master’s degree in Science/Engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the Master’s degree level. Or
- Applicants with four year Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the Bachelor’s degree level.
Physics
- Applicants with Master’s degree in Science/Engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the Master’s degree level. Or
- Applicants with four year Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the Bachelor’s degree level.

Note:

SC/ST/PD candidates are given a relaxation of 5 % in the minimum qualifying marks.
There will be no Institute financial assistantship for Ph.D. in Physics/Mathematics. However, JRF/SRF sponsored by UGC or other organizations shall be admitted as full time scholars with their own scholarship from respective organizations.
There will be no financial assistantship for Ph.D. under any category of admission (institute research scholar and sponsored) in Computer Science Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering. However, A candidate with M.Tech/M.E. degree from an institute recognized by UGC/AICTE/Government having a consistently strong academic record in the relevant or related discipline with 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) in the M.Tech/M.E and preceding degree along with a valid GATE score in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, or in relevant field of the PhD programme may be considered for financial assistance after one year based on merit under TRF* category based on the requirement of the institute.

*TRF (Teaching Research Fellow) – Under this category candidate will be eligible for stipend of Rs. 31,000/- per month for teaching assistance for maximum 3 year based on satisfactory performance and requirement of the institute.

Requirements for Full Time Sponsored Research Scholar

An applicant who joins Ph.D. at IIIT Ranchi under this category will not get any financial assistantship from the Institute.

Applicants should have qualified CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or secured funding from such an agency. In addition to the above, the minimum educational qualification for admission to the Ph.D. program in CSE and ECE is M.Tech/M.E. or an equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. For admission to the Ph.D. program in Science, a Master’s degree in Science or Engineering in the relevant discipline is required. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master degree. They shall not receive any financial support from the institute in any form. OR
Student/candidate financed by the Government /Semi-Government/ academic/ industry /research lab. In addition to the above, the minimum educational qualification for admission to the Ph.D. program in CSE and ECE is M.Tech/M.E. or an equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. For admission to the Ph.D. program in Science, a Master’s degree in Science or Engineering in the relevant discipline is required. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master degree. OR
Student/candidate nominated by Government of India/state under a Cultural Exchange Scholarship Programme, or a scholar admitted under an MOU. In addition to the above, the minimum educational qualification for to the Ph.D. program in CSE and ECE is M.Tech/M.E. or an equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. For admission to the Ph.D. program in Science, a Master’s degree in Science or Engineering in the relevant discipline is required. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master degree.

Requirements for Part Time Sponsored Research Scholar

Applicant should be sponsored by his/her employer.
Applicant must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization.
He/She will not receive any financial assistance/support from the Institute.
A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organization in which he/she is employed must be enclosed at the time of application.
These candidates should be able to attend regular examination as per the schedule of the Institute.

Selection Process

List of applicants shortlisted for further participation in the selection process such as written-test and/or Interview will be displayed on the Institute website.
No separate communication/intimation in this regard shall be made by the Institute.
The date and time of written-test and/or Interview will be informed only through the Institute website.

Application Process

Application form is required to be submitted, which will remain available on the IIIT Ranchi website www.iiitranchi.ac.in. The GATE candidates will also have to apply through the same process.
The duly completed application form along with self-attested copies of supporting documents/testimonials/certificates, payment receipt of fee etc. are required to sent by speed/registered post/Courier/by hand to the Registrar, Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi, ARTTC BSNL, Near Jumar Bridge, Hazaribag Road, Ranchi, Jharkhand 835217, India. The envelope containg the application be superscribed as “PhD Admission (Full-time/Part-Time) in ECE/CSE/Mathematics/Physics”. Candidates can also apply for more than one programme in separate application.
The application form with self-attested copies of supporting documents and payment receipt should be sent by speed/registered post/Courier/by hand on or before Jan 05, 2025.
