Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program beginning in Autumn 2025 semester –

PhD Admission Categories
- A. Institute Scholar: Receives assistantship from the Institute. Currently, this fellowship is exclusively available for the CSE, ECE, and Mathematics departments.
- B. Individual Fellowship (CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, etc.): Receives financial support through Government/Semi-Government schemes. The admission procedure and other requirements are the same as for Institute Scholars.
- C. Sponsored Category: Sponsored by their employer. The sponsoring organization must undertake to relieve the candidate for residential requirements, provide research facilities, and bear all expenditures (Institute fees, hostel fees, other expenses) during the Ph.D. program. A student in this category works full-time towards the Ph.D. program.
- D. Project Staff: A student working on a sponsored project at IIIT Naya Raipur and admitted to the Ph.D. Program to work full-time. The project duration must be at least two years at the time of admission. If the project ends before Ph.D. completion, the student must self-finance their studies.
- E. Part-Time: A professionally employed person who pursues the Ph.D. while continuing their service duties. They must be a regular employee of their institute/organization. The Institute does not provide assistantship/fellowship. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organization is required at application. All such candidates must fulfill eligibility criteria and institute selection procedures. A candidate wishing to enroll as Part-time Ph.D. must approach and interact with a relevant IIIT-NR faculty member at least six months prior to applying and submit a recommendation letter from this faculty along with supporting interaction documents.
- A. In-Service Internal Research Scholar (IIIT-Naya Raipur employees): Regular/full-time employees of IIIT-NR. Residential requirements are waived. Candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience in a regular/permanent position at IIIT-NR at the time of application. If selected, the employee must pursue their Ph.D. without detriment to their regular duties.
- B. External (On Campus) Research Scholar: Available for faculty members and professionals working in India from Government/Government Aided/Reputed Private Engineering Colleges/Science and Arts Colleges/Industry/Public Sector. The residential requirement is a minimum of ONE YEAR to complete mandatory coursework. Candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience in a regular/permanent position at the time of application from their present organization. The sponsoring college/organization must have existed for 5 years to patronize candidates for the part-time Ph.D. program.
- F. Foreign Nationals/NRIs: Will be admitted only under the sponsored category.
- G. Self Financed / On Deputation:
- I. Self-Financed: Candidates with experience and a good track record who join the Ph.D. program through the usual admission procedure alongside regular Ph.D. students.
- II. On Deputation: Candidates deputed from Government or academic institutions on study leave for a period of not less than three years to pursue their Ph.D. program at the Institute.
- III. Note: The Institute will not provide any assistantship/fellowship to students admitted under these two categories.

Eligibility Criteria
Academic Qualification Requirements
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program, OR
- A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program, OR
- Qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body.
- All the above must be with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed.
- Alternatively: An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the norms of the Government / UGC.
- Note: The Selection Committees may set higher criteria than the minimum qualifications listed above.
Individual Fellowship Category Applicants
- Should have qualified CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or secured funding from such an agency.
- They are not entitled to Institute Assistantship.
Sponsored (Full-time) and Part-time Category Applicants
- Must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization.
- Must have at least two years of professional experience in the respective field.
Self-financed and On-deputation Categories Applicants
- Should have at least two years of professional experience in the respective field.
Application Process
- Please read the instructions given below before filling up the application form.
- All applications will be received through online portal of IIIT Naya Raipur only. An applicant has to register online by filling the required details. The login credentials will be provided to the applicant on an email used for registration.
- The applicant has to login with details received and complete the application by providing all the necessary information. Please note that the applicant has to upload the testimonials wherever it is required to validate the information along with photograph and signature.
- After completion of filling the application, the applicant will be directed to the payment gateway. Once the payment is done successfully, the applicant will be asked to confirm the final submission of the application.
- After the final submission, an acknowledgement of payment along with the copy of the application will be provided for future reference.
- The applicant has to carry the print out of this application along with all the attachments and their originals during the written test/interview.
- The applicant has to register separately (the same email id can be used) to apply for multiple disciplines and payment also to be made separately.
Selection Process
Students who qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGCCSIR/NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests based on an interview.
OR
Students through an Entrance Test conducted by IIIT – NR. The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology, and 50% shall be subject specific (Syllabus is attached at the end). Students who have secured minimum 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview The Selection Committees may set higher criteria. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance test for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as applicable.
Institute will decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.
Based on academic record and performance of the candidates in the written test and interview, the Departmental selection committee will recommend to Dean (R&I) the names of candidates found suitable for admission to PhD program.
A candidate who wishes to enroll as PART TIME [1.E] PhD student should approach and interact with a faculty member of IIIT-NR specialized in his/her research area of interest at least six months prior to applying for PhD admission. He/she needs to submit a recommendation letter from this faculty along with his/her application.
