Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates having a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed), M.Phil. Degree of Indian institutions or equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an Authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to reserved categories/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per policies of the Government of Maharashtra prescribed from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree before 19th September 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
- M. Phil. students of any recognised University whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme.
Process of Admission
Candidate shall be admitted to Ph.D. programmes by a two-stage process through:
- Entrance Examination
- Personal Interview
Entrance Examination
- H-PET Entrance Examination, which shall be a qualifying text.
- The test H-PET comprises two Papers:
- Paper I :- Research Methodology and Research Aptitude: 50 Marks
- Paper II :- Subject Specific: 50 Marks
- The H-PET shall carry 100 Marks for the duration of 2 hours.
- Qualifying marks shall be 50 % of the aggregate, taking Paper I and Paper II together.
- All questions shall be multiple choice; each correct answer carries one mark with no negative marking systems.
- Relaxation of 5% of Marks, from 50% to 45%, shall be allowed for those categories of candidates as per policies of the Government of Maharashtra prescribed from time to time.
Personal Interview
For candidates qualifying in H-PET and Candidates exempted from the Entrance Examination, a personal interview will be conducted as per the procedure prescribed in due course.
Exemption from appearing in Entrance Examination: H-PET
The Candidates fulfilling at least one of the following conditions will be exempted from the Entrance Examination:
- Candidates qualified in UGC-NET (Including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (Including JRF) / SLET/ SET / GATE (valid score) / GPAT (valid score), CSIR / ICAR / ICMR / DBT & DST Inspire fellowship / Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS) or Teacher fellowship holders will be exempted from the Entrance Test.
- Students who have passed the PET examination conducted by any recognised University.
- Candidates who have passed M. Phil. Programme from any recognised University will be exempted from the Entrance Test for the Ph.D. programme, provided the MPhil is as per UGC guidelines.
- Ph.D. degree holder from any recognised University who desires to pursue Ph.D. at this University.

- Photocopy of Mark’s Statement of Master’s Degree. (If not acquired, the Mark sheet should be submitted at the time of the Personal Interview).
- Photocopy of the Caste Certificate in case of Reserved Category Candidates (if applicable).
- Photocopy of the Non-Creamy Layer Certificate in case of Reserved Category Candidates (if applicable).
- Photocopy of the Medical Certificate issued by a Civil Surgeon in case of Persons with Disabilities (P.H.) candidates (if applicable).

- Photocopy of certificates in case of candidates exempted as per University Notification clause- III (A, B).
- Photocopy Candidates qualified in UGC-NET (Including JRF) / UGC-CSIR-NET (Including JRF) / SLET / SET / PET/ GATE (valid score) / GPAT (valid score), CSIR / ICAR /ICMR / DBT & DST Inspire fellowship / Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS) or Teacher fellowship holders Certificate.
- Photocopy of M.Phil. Degree Certificate from any recognised University
