Candidates with UGC (NET) including NET qualified under category-3/UGC-CSIR (JRF) examination/ SLET/ GATE/ GPAT/ ICAR/ INSPIRE/ Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship awardees/teacher-fellowship holders/any other Direct Fellowship Awardee/who have passed M.Phil. from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar/ have qualified GNDU Ph.D. Eligibility Test and provided with validity CERTIFICATE are exempted from Ph.D Eligibility Test but will have to apply online in the following departments of GNDU Campuses:

Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA [50% marks or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently abled candidates] of Guru Nanak Dev University or an equivalent degree of recognized Indian or Foreign University in the subject concerned or allied-field.
- Those students who have passed their qualifying examinations (Masters) under Distance Education Mode, ODL Mode & Lateral Entry Scheme from the Central Universities/State Universities/other Govt. Institutions/Deemed Universities /Private Universities or under Regular Mode from Deemed/Private Universities, will have to check the equivalence of their qualified examinations from Equivalence Book (www.gndu.ac.in – University Links/Information Desk/General Branch Information Desk) or contact the Equivalence Section of the General Branch, Administration Block before applying for admission to the respective subject in Ph.D.

GNDU Amritsar PhD Eligibility Test
- The Eligibility Test will be conducted for different departments/ subjects to fill in seats for the Ph.D. programme as per the prevailing Ordinances of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for its Ph.D. Programmes.
- The validity of the Eligibility Test cleared will be for 2 years for the candidates who also fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission. A certificate of validity will be issued to only those candidates who does not get admission in any course during the current session.
- The students who have qualified UGC(NET) including NET qualified under category-3/UGC-CSIR(JRF) examination /SLET/GATE /GPAT/ ICAR /INSPIRE/ Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship awardees/ teacher-fellowship holders/Direct Fellowship Awardees or have passed M.Phil. from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar/Validity Certificate of qualifying GNDU Ph.D. Eligibility Test will be exempted from Ph.D. Eligibility Test.
PhD Eligibility Test Pattern
- The question paper will consist of two parts.
- Part-I will be compulsory and common to all candidates. It will consist of 15 multiple choice questions of general awareness and mental ability, and will carry 15 marks.
- Part-II will be subject specific. The candidates will be required to attempt 40 objective type multiple choice questions, each question carrying 1 mark, and 9 short answer type questions (out of 20), each question carrying 5 marks.
PhD Eligibility Test Syllabus
- The syllabus for the Ph.D. eligibility test for admission to PhD Program will be the same as prescribed for UGC/CSIR NET conducted by respective regulatory bodies.
- In case of subjects where NET is not conducted, the syllabus for the test will be as per the Post Graduate Syllabi.
PhD Eligibility Test Minimum Qualifying marks
The minimum qualifying marks required to pass in the Ph.D. Eligibility Test have been fixed as 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled candidates) in the aforesaid Eligibility test for admission to Ph.D. Programme.

Application Fee
Registration Fee for SC/ST (of Punjab) is Rs. 750 and for all other categories it is Rs. 1500.
