Gujarat Biotechnology University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat invites online application for PhD admission for the academic session 2025.

Categories of Admission

• GBU Fellowship – (@Rs.20,000per/month)
• Own fellowship – Candidates with JRF qualified (CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/DST) Applicants having their own fellowship from recognized Government funding agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICAR/DST or equivalent. GBU will not be responsible for the fellowship of such candidates.
• Project Staff– This category refers to the students working in a sponsored project (in GBU). The said project staƯ is eligible to be admitted in the Ph.D. Program (of GBU) to work on a full-time basis. GBU will not be responsible for the fellowship of such candidates.

Fellowship

The students admitted to the program will have to avail the fellowship for which they have qualified as per the rules of the funding agency. GBU will have no financial liability regarding the same.

Eligibility

• Candidates who have completed M.Sc./MTech or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55 % marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification.
• A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section(EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the UGC Guidelines.

Selection Procedure

• An entrance test will be conducted at GBU. The Ph.D. entrance exam qualified candidates will be called for the interview.
• The qualified candidates will be selected as Ph.D. students of GBU. or
• Candidates with their own fellowship (JRF) conferred by the government agencies, e.g. UGC/CSIR/ICAR/ICMR/DBT/DST, will be exempted from the GBU entrance test and may directly appear for the interview. The fellowship terms and condition of the funding agencies will be followed at GBU. However, GBU will not be responsible for the maintenance of the fellowship of such candidates after their fellowship funding are over. or
• The GBU Project fellows working in the national/state extramural research projects may apply for entrance exam. GBU Project fellows having qualifications of national eligibility test-without fellowship (UGC/CSIR/ICAR/ICMR/DBT/DST) will be exempted from the GBU entrance test and may directly appear for the interview after the recommendation of the PI. However, GBU will not be responsible for the maintenance of the fellowship of such candidates after their project funding are over.
