Admission Process

  • Admission will be based on GBU-ET or as per the new UGC guidelines.
  • Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination may also apply. However, M.Phil./Ph.D. applicants must provide proof of having met the minimum required qualifications at the time of the interview.

Other Requirements

  • Ph.D. applicants must submit a research proposal (approximately 1,500 words) at the time of the interview.
  • The proposal’s title page must specify:
    • Discipline of research
    • Mode of admission (Full-Time/Working Professional)
  • Candidates may also submit a list of publications or other research credentials, if available.

Entrance Test and Selection Criteria

  • The Entrance Test (GBU-ET) for M.Phil. / Ph.D. will be qualifying in nature, with a minimum passing mark of:
    • 50% for General/OBC candidates
    • 45% for SC/ST candidates (as per UGC guidelines)
  • The exam syllabus consists of:
    • 50% Research Methodology
    • 50% Subject-specific content
  • Candidates are advised to check the university website (www.gbu.ac.in) for the detailed syllabus.

Selection Process

  • Qualified candidates from GBU-ET will be called for an interview in the ratio of 1:7 per seat (category-wise).
  • Final selection will be based on:
    • 70% weightage to the entrance test
    • 30% weightage to interview/viva voce (as per UGC norms)

Specific Information only for JRF / NET / UGC- Qualified for Ph.D.

  • Online registration is MANDATORY for all interested candidates who are seeking admission in the Doctoral Research programme leading to Ph.D. Degree (Ph.D. programme) through the online admission portal of the Gautam Buddha University (GBU).
  • The GBU-ET is mandatory for Non JRF / NET along with qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only candidate(s).
  • Candidates who have qualified Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) through UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICAR-ASRB Examination ONLY, and NET along with Qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only are exempted from appearing in the GBU Entrance Test (GBU-ET) for admission into the Ph.D. programme of the GBU. However, they are required to fulfill other minimum eligibility criteria as per UGC / GBU rules and regulations.
  • Only JRF / NET along with qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only candidates are advised to OPT for either “GBU ET” OR “Exemption from GBU-ET” mode of the Examination.
  • The interview panel will award marks to the candidate(s) based on the presentation by the candidate about his/her Academic Background, Area of Interest, and Research Proposal as mandated by the UGC Ph.D. Degrees Regulations, 2016.
  • For JRF/ NET along with qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only / GBU Entrance Test Qualified Candidate: selection of candidate will be based on a weightage of 70% of the UGC Test Score / GBU-ET Score and 30% to the performance (based on interview marks). If a JRF candidate from another accredited body appears without a score, then the interview will be based on a 100 marks format.
  • As the marks in UGC JRF / NET along with qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only are given out of 300, so GBU ET marks will also be awarded out of 300 for making equivalence.
  • Additionally, 05 Marks will be extra to the JRF qualified candidates and 03 Marks will be extra to the NET along with qualified for Ph.D. category or qualified for Ph.D. only if they appear through GBU ET.
  • Preference for selection will be given to the candidate(s) i.e., the merit list will be prepared on the basis as under: i. First preference will be given to the JRF qualified candidate(s). ii. Second preference will be given to the NET along with qualified for Ph.D. or qualified for Ph.D. candidate(s). iii. Third preference will be given to the GBU-ET qualified candidate(s).

Specific Requirement for Ph.D. Candidates of Working Professionals.

  • Candidates must have two years of teaching and/or research experience from national institutes of higher learning, universities, or central laboratories, or two years of industry / R&D experience at an appropriate level.
  • Additionally, candidates must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and a letter of consent from their organization, ensuring that they will be granted adequate facilities and time to complete coursework and conduct research.
  • These documents must be submitted at the time of the interview for admission. Candidates are required to complete their first-year coursework in a classroom mode.

  • The application form and admission brochure are available on the university website: www.gbu.ac.in.
  • The application fee must be paid online via Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
  • Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria and verify their reservation category before submitting the application form.
  • Application forms will be available only in online mode on the university website.
  • Candidates must securely retain their login credentials (ID & password), as admit cards and further communications will be accessible online only.
