Categories of PhD Programme

Fakir Mohan University offers the following two types of Ph.D. programme:

  • Ph.D. in Regular mode (Ph.D.)
  • Ph.D. in Executive mode (Executive Ph.D.)

Eligibility Criteria

For Regular Mode

The candidates who have qualified in:

  • Category 1: National level fellowship/ scholarship such as JRF (UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR/ ICSSR/ ICAR etc.).
  • Category 2: National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR and GATE.
  • Category 3: National Eligibility Test (NET) in the category for admission to Ph.D. programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor.

are eligible to apply for Ph.D. in regular mode if they fulfil either of the following degree eligibility conditions.

  • Candidates who have completed a 2-year/ 4-semester master‟s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor‟s degree or a 1-year/ 2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/ 8-semester bachelor‟s degree programme or a programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master‟s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. OR equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission directly after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor‟s degree programme as per NEP-2020 should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ ST/DifferentlyAbled, and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

For Executive Mode

Candidates working in executive positions such as Director/ Manager/ Scientist etc. in nonacademic institutions of national/ international repute are eligible to apply for Ph.D. in Executive mode if they fulfil the following conditions.

  • Candidate shall have Master’s Degree or any other Degree/ Diploma of the University or any other Degree/ Diploma of any other University/ Institution recognized as equivalent thereto, with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or an equivalent Grade. Due relaxation shall be given to the applicants belonging to the reserved categories as per the rules of the State Govt./ Govt. of India. The candidate should possess a good moral character, certified by the Head of the Institution/Department last attended, to be enclosed along with the application for registration.
  • Experience: Five years of post-qualification experience (experience may include stints at multiple organizations) for candidates holding Master degree in relevant disciplines.
  • Candidates need to provide a ‘NO OBJECTION’ certificate issued on a proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization or employing authority, stating it has no issues with the candidate for pursuing Executive Ph.D. and will grant leave to undertake Course work in F.M. University. No commitment of financial support or the continuation of their employment during or after the PhD is required.
  • The candidates must be currently working in any of the following category of organisations having national/ international repute.
    • Private/ Government companies, research organizations, Ministries of central and State Governments.
    • Defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations.
    • Established industrial research and development organizations.
    • Autonomous bodies and public undertakings excluding academic institutions.

Selection Procedure

For consideration of admission into Ph.D. it is mandatory for the candidates to appear interview/ viva-voce, which shall be conducted by the concerned department. Candidates are required to submit a broad outline of the proposed research work at the time of verification of original documents on the day of the interview. The candidates found provisionally eligible during the verification have to present their proposal in front of the board and appear at the interview. The following modes will be adopted for selection of the candidates.

  • For those candidates having JRF/ NET (LS) prior to 2024, the selection will be done based on personal interview only.
  • For the candidates who had qualified for national level fellowship/ scholarship in UGCNET/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ CEED and similar National level tests, the selection will be done based on interview only.
  • For all candidates qualified through UGC/ NET/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/ CEED and similar National level tests in 2024 onwards for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. or Admission to Ph.D. only, the selection will be based on the performance in the NET/ GATE examination and the interview/ viva-voce with weightages of 70% for the national level test and 30% for the interview.
  • For the Executive Ph.D. candidates, selection will be based on interview only.

Application Process

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for admission into Ph.D. program in the selected subjects can register through the online SAMARTH registration portal.

Following are the important instructions for filling up the online application form

  • The candidates should have a valid email ID and phone number before applying the online application form for admission into Ph.D. programmes in Fakir Mohan University.
  • The applicants should keep ready a scanned copy of a passport size photograph, scanned copy of signature and other documents (all in .jpg / .JPEG file format) before filling up the online application form. Candidates seeking admission into different Ph.D. programmes of the University should follow the following steps for successful submission of application.
  • The online application must be submitted as per the dates notified on the University website.
    • STEP 1: Read the eligibility criteria carefully, once paid, no refund will be initiated in any circumstances.
    • STEP 2: Filling up the online application form.
    • STEP 3: Submission of hard copy of the application form along with supporting documents.

  • Downloading of Admit Card for attending viva-voce/interview: 7 April, 2025 (by 05:00 PM)

  • Publication of Result by respective Departments: 16 April, 2025 (by 05:00 PM)
