Eligibility

  • The candidates must have a Master Degree from UGC recognised Educational Institution or an equivalent degree from a Foreign Educational Institution with at least 55% in aggregate / equivalent grade points. A Maximum relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Cat-I/PwD.
  • If the results of Master’s Degree are declared in the form of grades / credits /cumulative grade points in their marks cards/transcripts, such grades / points shall be converted into percentage to assess the minimum eligibility criteria.

Selection Process

Entrance Test Based

  • The University will conduct an Entrance Test of 120 minutes duration for a maximum of 100 marks.
  • The entrance test shall consist of 50% questions pertaining to Research Methodology and 50% pertaining to the specific Core Subject.
  • The Test will be of 50 Multiple Choice Questions carrying 02 marks each.
  • The candidates must secure 50% marks in entrance test to be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme, subject to availability of vacancy under the respective category.
  • The Syllabus for the Entrance Test shall include questions on Research Methodology and cognate / Core subjects of the P. G. Courses / UGC-NET Syllabus in the ratio Section A: Research Methodology 50% and Section B: Subject-specific knowledge 50%.

Non-Entrance Candidates

  • The candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR-JRF/NET/K-SLET/GATE (with valid period with required score)/ Recognized Young Researchers by DST, UGC, CSIR/AICTE, QIP/ INSPAIR/ DBT/National Funding Agencies/M.Phil. (Regular mode)/ Teachers with QIP/ Foreign candidates are Exempted from Entrance Test.
  • However, the eligible candidates qualified in UGC/ CSIR JRF/ AICTE/ QIP/ DST/INSPIRE/ National Level Funded Projects with fellowships and ICCR sponsored foreign national may apply any time to the University for admission to Ph.D. programme.
  • Candidates who are exempted from entrance test may also apply for both streams by submitting separate applications (Form A & Form B).

Consolidated Merit List

  • Entrance Category: A consolidated Merit List of all the entrance test candidates shall be prepared by the University by taking into consideration the marks of only such candidate who have secured a minimum of 50% in the entrance test and the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50. However, the candidate has to secure overall minimum of 55% marks. The overall minimum marks shall be 50% for SC/ST/Cat-1 & OBC/PwD to be eligible for provision registration.
  • Non-Entrance Category: The merit list of the candidates who have cleared UGC/ CSIR-JRF/NET/ K-SLET/ GATE (with validity period with required score)/by Recognized young researchers DST, UGC, CSIR/AICTE/ QIP/INSPIRE/DBT/National funding Agencies. etc., shall be prepared based on marks secured at Post-Graduate Level. In case of tie in the percentage, within subgroups, seniority by birth shall be criterion for ranking.
  • An interview shall be conducted by the University / Department to assess the research interest, communication skills, analytical skills and depth of knowledge in the concerned subject.
  • Candidates will be selected for admission from both entrance and exempted stream in a 50:50 ratio based on overall performance in entrance test and interview with weightage ratio of 70:30%.

Application Process

  • Candidates shall visit the University Website www.bcu.ac.in for Application Form.
  • Candidates shall fill the required details in the online Application Form and submit it offline.
  • For successful registration of application form, candidate shall upload a valid scanned copy of the recent passport size photo, communication details, valid e-mail address and education details in https://bcu.ac.in/onlineapp/ link.
  • The candidates shall pay the prescribed fee through online payment by entering the Account Number and IFSC Code or by scanning QR Code.
  • Thereafter, the candidates shall submit one set of duly filled in hard copy of Application Form to the Office of the Registrar (Evaluation), Natural Science Block, Jnana Jyothi Central College Campus, Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru 560001.
  • The Applicants can also send the applications through post with all the relevant documents along with online paid receipt (on the post mention “Ph.D. Application for _____”) to the Registrar (Evaluation), Natural Science Block, Jnana Jyothi Central College Campus, Dr. Manmohan Bengaluru City University, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru – 560001.
  • Incomplete / ineligible Applications and Applications received after the last date shall automatically stand rejected and no communication regarding the same will be made to the candidates.
