Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University PhD Admission 2024-25

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University invites applications from eligible candidates for admission into the Ph.D. programme for the academic year 2024– 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate should possess a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST categories) in the subject concerned or in any allied subject from a recognized university. The University admits the candidates into the Ph.D. Programme through a two-stage process, i.e., through qualifying at National level/state-level entrance tests conducted by the competent bodies and the equivalent tests conducted by the University (Dr.BRAOU), which is as follows:

A candidate should have passed JRF / UGC-NET/CSIR-NET / SET /SLET/ M.Phil. etc.,
OR
A candidate should have qualified at the Entrance Test conducted by Dr.BRAOU.

Among the notified vacancies,60% shall be filled by NET/ SET/ SLET/ JRF qualified candidates and the remaining 40% through the University Entrance Test followed by the Interviews.

In case of an unfilled vacancy in either category, candidates from another category can be requisitioned to fill the vacant slots in the order of merit and duly following Reservation norms. However, a candidate satisfying one or more of the eligibility criteria as per the rules is not guaranteed admission into the Ph.D. program. Ph.D. admission is subject to the availability of vacancies in the department and with the research supervisor (s) in the concerned department, the availability of physical facilities in the subject concerned (in the case of science subjects), the candidate’s academic record, and the candidate ‘s performance in the Ph.D. admission interview, and statutory State Reservation Policy

Admission Procedure

• Admission into the Ph.D. programme shall be through an entrance test (Computer-Based Test [CBT]) followed by an interview.
• Applicants who have qualified in UGC/ CSIR-JRF/ NET/ SLET/ SET/M.Phil. are exempted from appearing for the entrance test. However, they must submit the online application form, register for admission by paying the required fee, and appear for the interview.
• Medium: The medium of instruction and examination for the Ph.D. entrance test, coursework, and dissertation/thesis writing shall be English only, except for Telugu, for which the medium shall be Telugu.
• The Ph.D. entrance test result is valid for one-time use only for the academic year mentioned in the Admission Notification (2024–25).
• A candidate is allowed to appear for only one subject in the entrance test.
• The syllabus for the various subjects (Paper I & Paper II) for the Ph.D. entrance test is available on the university website.
• The qualifying marks in the written test are 50% (P-I: 50 marks & P-II: 100 marks), in the case of SC/ST categories 45% (P-I: 45 marks & P-II: 90 marks) in each paper.

Application Process

• Registration for the Ph.D. entrance test is through online mode only.
• Candidates are advised to visit the university portal at www.braouonline.in to fill out the prescribed application form and register by paying fee.
• After payment of the fee, the candidate must complete and submit the application form online.
• Please note: Merely making the fee payment without submitting the online application form does not complete the registration process.
• The procedure for payment of the registration fee is available on the website. The fee once paid will not be refunded.The entrance test will be conducted only at Hyderabad.
