  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Planning followed by a Master’s in any specialization of Architecture/Planning.
  • OR Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering followed by a Master’s in any specialization of Planning.
  • OR Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering followed by a professional Master’s (or equivalent) degree in fields related to Planning (Urban planning, Infrastructure, Housing, Transport, etc.), Urban Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering/Technology, Environmental Engineering, Science/Technology in Geomatics/ Geoinformatics/Geographical Information System, or a Master’s in Geography, Economics, Sociology or Social work, Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Development Studies, Policy Studies, or Political Science.

Admission Process

As per the notification of UGC, the mode of admission is being classified in two categories –

Category A (For Non-Fellowship aspirants only)

The selection process of such candidates shall be based on Interview only.

A candidate, who is eligible, as per the eligibility given in AKTU PhD ordinance in relevant disciplines and has qualified GATE/ NET/ CAT/ CMAT/ GPAT/ PGETA/Appropriate National Level Examination (in the relevant discipline)/ subjects with VALID score, are exempted from appearing in the PhD entrance examination of the university, as per the list below.

Faculty of Engineering & Technology

• Qualified Examination: GATE/NET
• Eligibility: Eligible for admission under Non-AKTU fellowship and UGC fellowship as per UGC norms.

Faculty of Management

• Qualified Examination: GMAT/CAT/CMAT/NET
• Eligibility: Eligible for admission under Non-Fellowship mode only.

Faculty of Pharmacy

• Qualified Examination: GPAT/NET
• Eligibility: Eligible for admission under Non-Fellowship mode only.

Faculty of Applied Sciences

• Qualified Examination: GATE/NET
• Eligibility: Eligible for admission under Non-AKTU fellowship and UGC fellowship as per UGC norms.

Faculty of Architecture, Planning & Development

• Qualified Examination: GATE/PGETA
• Eligibility: Eligible for admission under Non-AKTU fellowship.

Note

• In case of NET qualified candidate, only NET Category-1 (NET JRF) shall be eligible for fellowship scheme of UGC, as per UGC norms . In the case of NET qualified candidates under Category-2 and Category-3, shall be eligible for PhD admission under Non-fellowship scheme of university.
• If a candidate wishes to opt for AKTU Homi Bhabha Fellowship (offered only for Faculty of Engg & Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Architecture & Planning), he/she needs to apply under Category-B.

Category B (For AKTU Fellowship (Homi- Bhabha Research Cum Teaching Assistant Fellowship )& Non-Fellowship aspirants only

• For other candidates, who are not covered under Category A, the candidates will have to appear in the entrance examination ,as per the eligibility given in AKTU PhD ordinance.
• There shall be a multiple choice objective nature test for such candidates who are seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme of the University.

Note: Any Candidate falling under Category “A” ,but wishes to apply for AKTU Fellowship (Homi- Bhabha Research Cum Teaching Assistant Fellowship), needs to appear in the written examination i.e. he/she needs to submit his form under Category “B” and will be required to appear in the written examination.

Merit List

• The merit list of Category A and Category B shall be prepared separately.
• For Category A , the merit list shall be prepared based on the interview.
• For Category B, 70% weightage in written exam and 30% weightage of interview; shall finalize the merit list.

AKTU Lucknow Entrance Examination Details

• The multiple choice type examination for admission to Ph.D. programmes exam shall be conducted offline / OMR pattern at the specified centres as prescribed by the University.
• All objective type questions are required to be answered against the respective question number. Candidate is supposed to select only one choice for correct answer in each question.
• More than one answers indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect answer and no marks will be awarded for the incorrect answer.
• The paper shall be of two-hour duration and shall contain 100 multiple choice type questions, out of which 50 questions will be of Research Methodology and 50 questions will from subject specific disciplines/subject areas .
• The syllabi for papers on respective subject domains shall be GATE/GPAT/NET/CAT /PGETA/ Appropriate National Level Examination.
• Negative Marking: 4 marks will be awarded for each correct answer and no marks will be deducted for wrong answer. No marks shall be deducted for un-attempted questions.

Schedule of Examination

The examination will be conducted tentatively on 27th September, 2025 at specified centre for the candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. program from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

City of Examination

The written test for Ph.D. programmes may be conducted at Lucknow (May vary depending upon the number of applicants for a city).

Admit Card

• Admit card will be available online to every candidate. Downloaded admit card shall be treated as valid admit card.
• The candidates are advised to check the details of admit cards with regards to their category, gender, Name, Father’s Name etc. as mentioned on the Admit Card.
