Online applications for admission to Ph.D. was invited during the period 21/01-10/02, 2025 and the entrance test for the same was held on 15/02/2025, in accordance with the Ph.D. prospectus 2024-25 (Even Semester), published on university website.

Later, it was observed that new notification has been issued by Haryana Government, (Haryana Govt. GAZ.(Extra.), July, 2024 regarding changes in the criteria for exclusion of persons within the Backward classes as Creamy Layer. Accordingly, Ph.D. prospectus 2024-25 (Even Semester) has been revised to accommodate changes incorporating the provisions of this notification of Haryana Government.

To ensure fair chance to all candidates/applicants, it has been decided to conduct entrance examinations again for admission.

Note

The candidate, who qualified the entrance test conducted in July, 2024 may opt the same score for admission in this semester. However, they have to register afresh. Such candidates may also appear in this entrance examination to improve their score. Better of the scores will be considered for admission.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree programme (after 4 year undergraduate degree) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10- point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • A 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree programme, with the same conditions as above.
  • A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with Research should have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10.
  • Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a Foreign Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
  • A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and recommended for award of the degree, may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme in any Institution on a provisional basis even before the viva-voice or final defence.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to OSC/DSC/ST/BC-A&B (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision 3 of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their master’s degree before 19th September 1991. Note: The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures, if any.
  • A relaxation of 0.5 score, i.e. CGPA of 7/10 or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/BC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Selection Process

  • The applicants will have to take the Entrance Test and those further shortlisted will be required to appear for interview/viva-voce/presentation.
  • However, candidates who are successful in the eligibility test conducted at national level by UGC / CSIR/DBT/ ICMR/ICSSR for the award of JRF within the permitted validity period of these awards or have a valid score in GATE / NET/ CEED and similar National level tests are exempted from the Entrance Test. However, candidates covered under the exempted categories may also appear in the entrance test, if they so desire, to improve their weightage.
  • A relaxation of 5 % marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time in the entrance examination conducted by the University. Minimum qualifying marks do not guarantee admission.
  • The Entrance Test shall be a Single Paper Test having 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and duration of test shall be 120 Minutes. The candidates shall be required to answer all questions. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers. The Entrance Test shall be divided in two parts.
    • Part ‘A’ Research methodology: Part-A shall consist of 50 MCQs each carrying one mark. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching / research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
    • Part ‘B’: This part shall contain 50 subject specific MCQs covering the topics given in the syllabus and are designed to test a candidate’s knowledge of the subject in which he/she has applied for Ph.D. admission.
  • The successful applicants, i.e. eligible applicants, who qualify the Entrance Test or otherwise exempted shall be judged by the Department Research Committee (DRC) through interview/viva-voce/presentation.
