Eligibility Criteria
Following candidates can apply for PhD in “exempted category” –
- UGC/CSIR/ICAR/NET/JRF Qualified Candidates.
- Only candidates who have obtained an M.Phil. degree through an entrance examination from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, are eligible.
- GATE Qualified Candidates with Minimum 65 Percentile.
- UGC NET Qualified for PhD Admission.
Educational Qualifications
- Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body or the University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 Point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system in followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or
- A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade shall be allowed for those students belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the State Government from time to time as well as for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above the permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace marks procedures.
- Candidates who have passed the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade) in a point scale wherever grading system in followed) and successfully completed the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to pursue research work leading to the Ph.D degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the State Government from time to time.
- Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of CCSU from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in the county for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme.
- Students appearing in last semester of masters program will also be eligible to apply for PhD. It is necessary to present the original mark sheet at the time of interview.
Selection Process
- Application Review: Eligible candidates are called for an interview.
- Interview (30 Marks):
- Candidates need 12 or more marks to be eligible for admission.
- Less than 12 marks means the candidate is not considered for admission.
- Prioritization:
- JRF-qualified candidates get first preference for admission.
- After JRF candidates, other categories are considered based on interview merit.
- Expired JRFs are considered NET qualified.
- Other Fellowships:
- Fellowships like NFSC/NFOBC/INSPIRE alone are not enough for eligibility.
- Candidates with these fellowships must also be NET qualified to be eligible.
- Tie-Breaking:
- Higher marks in postgraduate degree break the tie.
- If still tied, undergraduate, 10+2, then high school marks are checked.
- Reservation:
- Only Uttar Pradesh residents get reservation benefits.
- Residents from other states are considered under the General category.
