Eligibility

  • Admission to the Ph.D. programme is open to candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing the Acharya degree (Master’s degree in the Tibetan medium) in the relevant subject, with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade from a recognized University or Institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade is applicable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, differently abled categories, and other groups as per UGC norms.
  • Professionals employed at CIHTS, including researchers, faculty members, and staff, may also apply for the Ph.D. programme, provided they submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their current organization or department.

Selection Process

Non-NET candidates

  • Written Exam (100 marks)
  • Unit A-Research Methodology, MCQs (20 marks)
  • Unit B-Subject Related 10 short questions of 2 marks each (20 marks)
  • Unit C-Subject related 3 essay type questions of 10 marks each (30 marks)
  • Unit D- Translation of one paragraph from Tibetan to Sanskrit/Hindi/English (30 marks)
  • After clearing the written exam, candidates will have to appear in Interview.

JRF Qualified

  • JRF qualified students will be given admission based on an interview as per UGC regulation, 2022.

NET Qualified

  • NET qualified candidates will be given admission as per the UGC notification dated 27/3/2024.

The completed application form, along with self-attested photocopies of all required documents as specified in the form, must be submitted either by registered post, speed post, courier, or email on or before 05 June 2025 by 5:00 PM to the address given below. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered.
