Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institute accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, i.e.,55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other category of candidate as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
Admission Process
The admission shall be based on the criteria notified by the University, keeping in view the guidelines/norms in this regard issued by the UGC and other statutory bodies concerned and taking into account the Reservation in seats for applicants of reserved categories shall be provided as per the reservation laws of the State of Uttar Pradesh applicable in admissions from time to time.
The University shall admit candidates by a two-stage process through: Qualifying in an Entrance Test which will contain two papers in which multiple-choice/objective-type questions of 2 marks each.
Note- The University shall arrange for an interview/viva-voce for both type of candidate which shall include Presentations on the research interest/area. For this, there shall be maximum of 30 marks.

Examination Pattern
The entrance test consists of two papers, each paper comprising MCQ-type questions. The minimum qualifying marks for the Entrance Test shall be 50 percent marks in the total aggregate of the first and second paper.
Provided that a relaxation of 5% of marks, i.e., 45%, shall be allowed for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/Differently-abled category in the entrance examination conducted by the University. The Entrance Test shall ordinarily be conducted on the Bundelkhand University campus at Jhansi. Guidelines for conducting written examinations for persons with disabilities will be followed as defined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (PWD Act, 2016), which came into force from 19-04-2017.
Preparation of Academic Merit
The University shall grant Registration/Admission to the candidate for the Ph.D. programme based on academics and interview marks after the Vice-Chancellor’s approval.
Academic merit shall be prepared as follows:
- 25% of the Undergraduate percentage.
- 50% of the Postgraduate percentage.
- Additional weightage shall be given to the following candidates:
- Category-1 as mentioned in the UGC letter dated March 27, 2024: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D with JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor – 10 marks
- Category-2 as mentioned in the UGC letter dated March 27, 2024: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D without JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor – 05 marks
- Category-3 as mentioned in the UGC letter dated March 27, 2024: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor – 00 marks
- Candidates who have passed the entrance examination conducted by the University – 00 marks
- GATE or GPAT with more than a score of the 95th percentile – 10 marks.
- Inspire Fellowship candidate – 10 marks
Note: Candidates of all categories except serial number 04 will be exempted from the University entrance examination, but it is mandatory for them to apply online within the stipulated period. Their candidature for Ph.D. will not be considered in case of non-application.
Note: All candidates, including those exempted from the Entrance Test and those who qualify the test, must undergo the Academic Merit evaluation process as outlined above.
Application Process
- The Ph.D. Application form has to be filled online on the University website for admission to the Ph.D. Programme.
- The Online Application form will be filled by candidates required to appear for the Entrance Test as well as candidates exempted from the Entrance Test for admission to the Ph.D. program.
- Before applying online, candidates are required to keep ready the following documents in JPEG format for uploading as per the prescribed size:
- Soft copy of color photograph
- Soft copy of the signature
- Category Certificate (if applicable)
- 10th & 12th level Mark sheet
- UG Mark sheet and Degree Certificate
- PG Mark sheet and Degree Certificate
- Mark sheet of previous semester(s) for candidates appearing in the qualifying degree exam
- UGC(NET/JRF)/UGC Eligible for Admission to PhD programme through UGC test/CSIR(NET/JRF)/GATE/GPAT/Teacher Fellowship/ICMR/ICAR/DST-INSPIRE award letter.
- The University shall not be liable for the correctness and authenticity of the information/documents provided in the online application.
- The University has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission for the candidate who is found admitted to a course to which he/she is not entitled, being ineligible in accordance with the statutes and regulations in force or it is found that the documents submitted by the candidate are not genuine.
- Obtained printout of the application form with all the enclosures should reach to: Assistant Registrar(Research) Bundelkhand University, Kanpur Road, Jhansi, UP-284128 The envelope containing the application form should be superscribed as “Application for Ph.D. Entrance” and the name of the subject should be clearly mentioned on the envelope.
- Applications received after the due date or without the prescribed fees and other documents or incompletely filled-in application will be summarily rejected.
- Merely submission of an application form does not constitute a claim for a seat or admission to the Ph.D. programme.
