Eligibility Criteria
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks (in aggregate 52.5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS)or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. Or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate (72.5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS) or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- M.Phil. degree in accordance with UGC Ph.D./M. Phil. Regulations, 2016 and its amendments, acquired after Post-Graduate degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate (52.5% for SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS) or its equivalent B grade in UGC seven point scale in the concerned subject or allied subject(s) Or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions.
Admission Procedure
- Admissions to Ph.D. programme shall be made through two modes i.e.
- Candidates having valid UGC-JRF/ CSIR-UGC JRF/UGC NET/ CSIR-UGC NET/ GATE/CEED/DST Inspire Fellow/Teacher Fellowship holder, or any other equivalent national level fellowship.
- Through entrance test conducted by University in subjects where NET examination is not conducted by the UGC/CSIR.
- The Ph.D. seats will be first offered to the candidates having valid UGC JRF/ CSIR-UGC JRF /UGC NET/ CSIR-UGC NET/ GATE/CEED/DST Inspire Fellow /Teacher Fellowship holder, or any other equivalent national level fellowship in the following order of preference:
- Category-1 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Award of JRF, Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admissions) based on their performance in the interview.
- Category-2 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admissions).
- Category-3 NET qualified candidates (Eligible for Ph.D. admissions based on the maximum of the minimum cut offs prescribed by the UGC and the University).
- For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3, 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview.
- The DRC shall conduct the interview based on the criteria approved by the concerned Department’s DRC for all the aforementioned categories, and merit list shall be prepared categories wise accordingly.
Admission through University Entrance Test
Admissions to Ph.D. programme shall be made through a written Entrance Test conducted by Controller of Examinations (CoE) of the University for subjects where NET examination is not conducted by the UGC/CSIR.
- The entrance test will be of two hours duration carrying 100 marks.
- The question paper will have two parts.
- Part-1 of the question paper will have 50 objective type (MCQ) questions carrying 50 marks related to research methodology provided that the syllabus for Part I (Research Methodology) shall be of general nature to assess the research abilities of the candidates.
- Part-II of the question paper shall be subject specific carrying 50 marks requiring the candidates to answer type/Descriptive/MCQs from the concerned subject. objective
- The syllabus for the Part-II of the Entrance Test shall be laid down by the concerned Teaching Department(s). A candidate must secure at least 50% marks to qualify the entrance test (47.5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS candidates).
- The examiner must ensure that there is only one correct answer to each MCQ/Objective Type Question.
- Moderation for subject specific paper (Part II) must be carried out by a committee of the following:
- Dean of the concerned faculty
- Controller of Examinations
- Chairperson of the concerned department
- Moderation for Research Methodology Part I will be carried out by a committee of the following:
- Dean Academic Affairs
- Director, Research
- Controller of Examinations
- From those candidates who qualify the Ph.D. entrance test,
the concerned Department will invite for interview, in order of
merit of the entrance test, three times the total number of
seats advertised for admission to Ph.D. (for example, if a
Department has 8 seats, 24 candidates who have qualified
the written entrance test will be invited in order of merit for
interview). - Merit list – 70% marks based on performance in entrance test. 30% marks based on performance in the interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the respective department.
