Berhampur University PhD Admission 2026-27

Applications are invited for Ph.D. programme in P.G. Teaching Department of Berhampur University and Permanent Affiliated Colleges of Berhampur University.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates with a Master’s degree or M. Phil./ M. Tech./ LL.M. degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or CGPA of 6.0) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or 0.5 in CGPA, from 6.0 to 5.5, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the norms of the UGC from time to time.

Selection Criteria

• Admission shall be finalised strictly on the basis of conduct, the research aptitude, ability to work in a team, subject interest, availability of Supervisors, facilities in the department and the research focus of the department.
• An interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the respective Departments/Centre where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area before a duly constituted Department Research Committee (DRC).

Note: Candidates failing to appear at the Viva Voce/ Interview will not be considered for admission.

Final Merit List

The final merit list of qualified candidates shall be prepared by the respective Head/Coordinator/Principal of the Departments/Colleges, taking into account the guidelines by UGC for the determination of the eligibility of NET (UGC/CSIR), as summarized below:

• Category 1: The JRF qualified students admitted into the Ph.D. programme based on an interview.
• Category 2 & 3: Candidates who have qualified NET for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. (Category 2), and candidates eligible for Ph.D. admission only (Category 3), shall be given 70% weightage to the NET score and 30% weightage to the interview performance for admission to Ph.D. programmes.

Applicants who have qualified other national level examinations, such as GATE/GPAT, etc., or state level examination SET/MRIP with valid score (or percentage marks) provided in the passing certificate will be treated as Category 2 & 3 above.

Applicants with valid UGC NET/ CSIR NET/SET award letter but without having any score may be selected based on Academic career and Interview with 70% & 30% Weightages, respectively.

Application Process

After receiving the Intimation Letter for admission from the Head/Coordinator/Principal of different P.G. Departments, Berhampur University/Colleges, the candidates shall send the application form with required documents, super- scribing Ph.D. Course in the Subject: …………… on the top of the envelope to the respective Head/Coordinator/ Principal of different P.G. Departments, Berhampur University/ Colleges.

• Date of notification: 10 September, 2026
• Last date for submission of applications: 1 October, 2026
• Completion of scrutiny of applications by head/coordinator/principal: 12 October, 2026
• Publication & intimation to eligible candidates for interview/viva-voce: 16 October, 2026
• Conduct of interview & finalization of merit list by Department Research Committee (DRC): 26 October, 2026 to 30 October, 2026
• Publication of merit list of qualifying candidates for admission: 3 November, 2026
• Last date of receiving admission fee & original documents by: head/coordinator/principal: 12 November, 2026
• Commencement of classes for Ph.D. course work: 16 November, 2026
