Berhampur University PhD Admission 2025-26

Applications are invited for Ph.D. programme in the subjects where there is P.G. Teaching Department either Berhampur University Campus and or in Permanent Affiliated Colleges of Berhampur University.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates with a Master’s degree or M. Phil./ M. Tech./ LL.M. degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or CGPA of 6.0) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or 0.5 in CGPA, from 6.0 to 5.5, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the norms of the UGC from time to time.

Selection Criteria

• Admission shall be finalised strictly on the basis of conduct, the research aptitude, ability to work in a team, subject interest, availability of Supervisors, facilities in the department and the research focus of the department.
• An interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the respective Departments/Centre where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area before a duly constituted Department Research Committee (DRC).

Note: Candidates failing to appear at the Viva Voce/ Interview will not be considered for admission.

Final Merit List

The final merit list of qualified candidates shall be prepared by the respective Head/Coordinator/Principal of the Departments/Colleges taking into account the guidelines by UGC for determination of the eligibility of NET is summarized below:

• Category 1: The JRF qualified students admitted into the Ph.D. programme based on an interview as per UGC regulation – 2022.
• Category 2: Students who qualified NET for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. 70% weightage will be give for test scores and 30% weightage will be given for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes.
• Category 3: Students who qualified for NET – Admission to Ph.D. only 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage will be given for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes.

Application Process

After receiving the Intimation Letter for admission from the Head/ Coordinator/ Principal of different P.G. Departments, Berhampur University/ Colleges, the candidates shall send the application with required documents, superscribing Ph.D. Course in the Subject:…………. on the top of the envelope to the respective Head/ Coordinator/ Principal of different P.G. Departments, Berhampur University/ Colleges.

• Date of Notification: 20 August, 2025
• Last Date for submission of Applications: 6 September, 2025
• Completion of scrutiny of Applications: 11 September, 2025
• Publication and Intimation to eligible candidates for Interview/Viva-Voce: 13 September, 2025
• Conduct of Interview and finalization of merit list by respective Department Research Committee: 15 September, 2025 to 20 September, 2025
• Publication of Merit list of qualifying candidates for Admission: 23 September, 2025
• Last date of receiving the admission fee and other documents: 27 September, 2025
• Commencement of Class for Ph.D. Course Work in the respective Department/College: 9 October, 2025
