Admission Category
Candidates for admission are divided into two categories:-
- DET Category :- Candidates in this category will be granted admission through an entrance examination.
- DET Exempted Category :- Candidates in this category will be exempted from appearing in the entrance examination.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates appearing for the entrance examination must have passed the postgraduate examination in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade point.
- For candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe / Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer) / Differently-abled categories of Chhattisgarh state, a relaxation is available, allowing eligibility with 50% marks or an equivalent grade.
- This eligibility criteria is mandatory for candidates in both the DET category and the DET Exempted category.
Eligibility for Exemption from Entrance Examination
Candidates holding a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject who fulfill the following conditions will be eligible for exemption from the entrance examination. Such candidates will come under the DET Exempted category –
- Candidates who have passed the UGC – CSIR (JRF) examination, or have passed the UGC – NET Lectureship / CGSET examination, or have passed the (JRF) examination conducted by national agencies like ICAR, ICSSR, etc., or candidates who have passed any of the three categories 1, 2, or 3 of the UGC – NET examination. The relevant document (NET / CGSET) for this category must be uploaded.
- Candidates who have obtained an M.Phil. degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or Regulations, 2016. Candidates in this category must upload the relevant document (M.Phil. degree obtained according to the 2009 or 2016 Regulations).
- Candidates who have completed two years of service as a regular teacher in the relevant subject in any department of Atal Bihari Vajpayee University or any affiliated college of this University. Candidates in this category must upload the relevant documents (Regular appointment letter and minimum 2-year experience certificate).
- Candidates who have two years of work experience as a scientist in any recognized national institution (e.g., funded by CSIR, etc.) or international institution (e.g., funded by WHO, etc.). Candidates in this category must upload the relevant documents (Regular appointment letter and minimum 2-year experience certificate).
- Candidates who hold a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject, possess at least seven years of experience in administrative management, and, in the opinion of the Departmental Research Committee, have specialized knowledge in the relevant research field. Candidates in this category must upload the relevant documents (Regular appointment letter and minimum 7-year experience certificate).
Selection Process
- Seats are generally divided equally (50%-50%) between DET and DET Exempted categories.
- Seats can be interchanged between categories if there are insufficient eligible candidates in one.
- Applicants applying to both categories are eligible for both, but admission will be granted in only one, decided by the DRC (Departmental Research Committee).
Structure for the DET-2026 entrance examination.
- 50% of the questions will be based on Research Methodology.
- 50% of the questions will follow the current National Eligibility Test (NET) syllabus.
- The detailed syllabus is available on the university’s official website.
- The examination will consist of 100 objective-type questions. Each question will have 04 options, and 01 correct option must be selected.
- Circles on the OMR answer sheet must be filled completely using a blue or black ballpoint pen. If more than one circle is filled or a circle is left incomplete, the answer will be considered invalid. Questions left blank on the OMR sheet will receive zero marks.
- Each question carries one mark.
- There is no provision for negative marking.
- The duration of the exam is 02 hours.
- Students are permitted to take the carbon copy of the OMR sheet with them after the examination.
Qualifying Marks
- The minimum qualifying marks for the entrance exam are 50% for Unreserved category candidates.
- For Reserved categories (SC / ST / OBC Non-Creamy Layer) and Differently-abled candidates, the minimum qualifying marks are 45%.
- Candidates failing to secure these minimum qualifying marks will not be eligible for admission.
Final Selection
- Final selection for DET-2026 candidates is based on a combined score of 70% from the entrance exam and 30% from the interview.
- The final selection list is created by adding the exam marks and interview marks.
- Candidates in the DET Exempted category will be selected by the Departmental Research Committee according to the university’s PhD regulations.
