Arunachal Pradesh University Pasighat invites applications from eligible candidates to apply for admissions to Ph.D. programmes through Arunachal Pradesh University Ph.D. Entrance Test (APUPET-2025) for the Academic Session 2025-2026.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme listed above must have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates) or its equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale. For Tribal Studies, candidates must have a Master’s degree in any social science discipline with a minimum of55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates) or its equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale.
- Candidates who have completed a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or candidates with equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution are allowed to appear for APUPET 2025. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.
- Provided that a candidate is seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme, they should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Candidates who have completed MPhil programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade are eligible for admission to Ph.D. programmes and hence are eligible to sit in the written test of the APUPET 2025. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. Further, candidates who are a regular faculty member of the University are eligible to apply for Ph.D. positions in the University. They shall be exempted from the written examination of APUPET 2025 and are to be admitted into the Ph.D. programme solely based on their performance in personal interview.
- Eligibility Criteria for International Students Applying for Admission: Foreign nationals with degrees from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission purposes. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements as given above equivalent to an Indian Master’s Degree in the relevant disciplines. In addition, they should have a valid Passport and Visa. They are expected to have a working knowledge of English.

- These candidates are exempted from appearing in the written examination of APUPET-2025:
- Category-1: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D. with JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Category-2: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D. without JRF and (ii) appointment as Assis-tant Processor.
- Category-3: Eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme only and not for the for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Those who are having valid JRF and whose validity of JRF since the time of award of UGC-JRF, has not been more than three (03) years (as per the UGC Public Notice No. F.No.11-3/2022(SA-I), dated 29.03.2022), by the time of applying for Ph.D. programmes are also eligible to apply for any of the Ph.D. programmes.
- Those students who have cleared only NET prior to 2024 will have to appear for APUPET-2025 WRITTEN test.
APUPET Admission Procedure
The University shall admit candidates through a two-stage process:
- Entrance Test with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject-specific. Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.
- Personal Interview/Viva Voce where candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted Department Research Committee.
- For the selection of candidates based on the entrance test conducted, a weightage of 70% for the written test and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva voce shall be considered.
- Written test qualifying marks shall be 50%, in aggregate. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 50% to 45% shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differ-ently-Abled categories.
- The university may decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.
Selection Criteria for Exempted Candidates:
- All the exempted category candidates will be required to appear in the Personal Interview/Viva voce to be conducted by the concerned departments as and when notified for admission to the PhD programme.
- For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3 of the UGC-NET, 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes. The Ph.D. admission will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and the marks obtained in the inter-view/viva voce.
- The JRF-qualified students are to be admitted into the Ph.D. programme solely based on their performance in personal interview.
- All the exempted category candidates will be given an option to participate in the written examination of APUPET-2025, in case they wish to compete through that mode. However, it is to note that there is no separate allocation of seats to the respective categories.
