Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates with an M Sc. or equivalent, B.E/B.Tech/B.S. (4 year) or equivalent or M.E/M.Tech or equivalent or B.VSc./M.VSc. or MBBS/MD as applicable to individual Units as given in the table below are eligible to apply.
- Candidates with an M.Sc. or equivalent, M.E/M.Tech or equivalent should have at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- Candidates seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale where the grading system is followed.
- The candidates should have qualified in the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF/UGC-NET for JRF. The award certificate of such tests should have the validity period for seeking admission to a research programme as on 1 st January 2027.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories.

Selection Procedure
- Candidates are short-listed for an interview based on their performance in the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF/UGC-NET for JRF and academic performance.
- The selection is based on the performance in the interview (in some Units, an aptitude test/preliminary interview may precede the final interview).
Scholarships
All the students joining JNCASR in September 2026 admissions are eligible for a fellowship from CSIR / UGC, depending upon their mode of entry.
