Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates who have completed 1-year/ 2-Semester Master’s degree programme after a 4-year / 8-Semester / 5-year / 10-semester Bachelor’s degree programme or a 1-year / 2-Semester /2-year / 4-Semester Master’s degree programme after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed; or An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under the law in its home country, or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions. ➢ A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50%, or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / MBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled / Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8- semester Bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / MBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled / Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University from time to time.
Selection Process
- Admission to the PhD programme shall be based on the score of the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test)/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED and similar National level tests for the particular course as notified in clause 18 of O.124 (Notification 40) and the interview conducted by the University.
- Candidates shall be called for an interview based on their percentile in UGC NET (National Eligibility Test)/ UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED and similar national-level tests. The number of candidates invited for the interview shall be twice the number of notified PhD seats in the respective Department/Centre. The merit list shall be prepared according to UGC notice No.F.4-1 (UGC Review Committee)/ 2024 (NET)/140648/ dated 27th March 2024.
- The UGC NET (National Eligibility Test)/ UGC-CSIR NET score in categories 2 & 3 shall be valid for one year for admission to the PhD Programme.
- The final merit list shall be prepared by the respective department based on the following criteria:
- Category 1 – Candidates who qualify for fellowship/ scholarship in UGC-NET / UGC- CSIRNET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests. The Category-1 qualified candidates shall be admitted to Ph. D. programme based on performance in the interview.
- Category 2 – Candidates who are eligible for (i) admission to PhD without JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor. For candidates who qualify in Category 2, the total score for admission shall be 100. Out of 100, 70% weightage shall be given to the score/percentile obtained in the UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, and 30% weightage shall be given to the score obtained in the interview.
- Category 3 – Candidates eligible for admission to the PhD Programme only, and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor. For candidates who qualify in Category 3, the total score for admission shall be 100. Out of 100, 70% weightage shall be given to the score/percentile obtained in the UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, and 30% weightage shall be given to the score obtained in the interview.
- The Interview shall carry 100 Marks with the internal distribution as under –
- Write-up of not exceeding 1500 words: 50 Marks
- Aptitude and competence of the applicant in research: 50 Marks

- The University of Rajasthan has developed an online PhD. Admission Portal, namely RUPA Portal (https://rupauniraj.org), the link to which is also available on the University website (https://www.uniraj.ac.in).
- The Ph.D. Information Bulletin 2025 is available on the RUPA Portal. The entire admission process for various PhD disciplines/programmes for the Academic Session 2025–26 shall be conducted completely through ONLINE mode only.
