Eligibility Criteria

An applicant possessing a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Humanities/Management/ Sciences/Design and Social Science in a relevant discipline or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA is determined.

For some departments in exceptional cases candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Technology/ Engineering having at least 75% marks or equivalent CGPA and having proven research capability may be considered.

Relaxation of 5% in marks in qualifying degree will be given to SC/ST for determining the eligibility conditions to apply for PhD. admission.

Selection Procedure

  • The short listing of applications possessing the minimum educational qualifications, for the purpose of entrance test & interview will be done by respective departments in consultation with the Ph.D. Coordinator nominated by the Vice-Chancellor.
  • The entrance test will be of 90 minutes duration comprising of 60 multiple choice questions. It will be given a weightage of 70% in result preparation.
  • The Departmental Research Committee (DRC) of the respective department shall conduct the Interview and presentation which will be given weightage of 30%.
  • The final selection will be recommended by University level committee after combining the 70% weightage to the Entrance test and 30% weightage to the performance in the interview/viva voce for all department.
  • Students who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC-NCL/differently-abled category and Economically Weaker Section (EWS). However, DTU may decide the number of eligible students to be called for the interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.
  • Eligible students and exempted category students from the entrance test shall be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme with 50% marks as the qualifying cut-off in the interview/presentations. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the interview/presentations for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBCNCL/differently-abled category and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
  • The merit list for the unreserved category (UR) seats will comprise all the applicants in order of merit. In other words, the merit list will also include SC / ST / OBC-NCL / EWS applicants, irrespective of their category, if they meet the eligibility criteria of merit for UR category. No applicant can be excluded from the UR category merit list just because the applicant belongs to or has applied under SC/ ST/OBCNCL/EWS category.
  • All the shortlisted candidates on the basis of entrance test are required to come along with 7 to 8 slides of power point presentation on the topic of their interest during the interview.

Entrance Exemption

  • National Exams Qualified –
    • Entrance Test shall be waived only for UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR-NET/DBT/ICMR/ IARI-JRF full time fellowship holders, qualified students in GATE/CEED/NET and similar national level tests conducted by equivalent regulatory bodies, all foreign national students including those sponsored by ICCR/MHRD/ MEA, and covered under MoU with Delhi Technological University, and faculty of the Delhi Technological University/ Industry working professional.
    • Entrance Test shall be waived for the UGC-NET candidates (having valid NET Score released by NTA) for the following three categories:
      • Category-1 Admission to Ph.D. with JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor
      • Category-2 Admission to Ph.D. without JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor
      • Category-3 Admission to Ph.D. programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor
    • NET score shall be used for admission of Ph.D. programme. For students who qualify in categories 2 and 3, 70% weightage will be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview. The Ph.D. admission will be based on the combined merit of NET marks and the marks obtained in the interview/viva voce.
  • Exemption Entrance Test for DTU Non-Teaching Staff:
    • Regular non-teaching staff of DTU with a minimum of three (03) years of continuous service shall be exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test. Such candidates shall be permitted to directly appear for the interview, subject to the submission of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the competent authority of DTU. These candidates shall be registered as part-time Ph.D. Scholars and will not be eligible for DTU fellowships. Additionally, they must fulfil the academic eligibility criteria as prescribed in the DTU Ph.D. Admission Brochure, as revised from time to time.
  • Exemption of Entrance Test for officials of Govt. of India/Govt. of NCT of Delhi:
    • Officials (academic/non-teaching) under Government of India or the Govt of NCT of Delhi, with a minimum of five (05) years of regular service shall also be exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test. Such candidates shall be allowed to directly appear for the interview, subject to the submission of a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the competent authority of their respective organization. They shall be registered as parttime Ph.D. Scholars and shall not be eligible for DTU fellowships. Furthermore, they must meet the academic eligibility requirements as outline in the DTU Ph.D. Admission Brochure, as revised from time to time. This exemption shall be subject to the approval of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, DTU.
  • Students with JRF will also be exempted from the entrance test for admission in Part Time Ph.D. programme without fellowship.

Entrance Pattern

  • The Entrance test will be of 90 minutes duration comprising of 60 multiple choice questions.
  • The mode of examination shall be Computer Based Test at DTU Campus. The entrance test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology, and, 50% shall be the subject specific.
  • Students who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/OBC/differently-abled category and Economically Weaker Section (EWS). However, DTU may decide the number of eligible students to be called for the interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.

Application Process

  • The candidate has to fill online application form available at DTU website.
  • Take a printout after filling application form for future purposes.
  • Firstly register using a valid email id and password, and then fill the application form. An Application number will be generated while filling up the Online Registration form which will be used for all future correspondence.
  • If a candidate wishes to apply for admission in different departments then register separately for each departments and pay separate registration fee.
