Tumkur University PhD Admission 2026-27

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the admission to Ph.D Progtamme offered by various Departments of Studies and Research at the Tumkur University for the academic year 2026-27.

Eligibility

Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy Layer)/ Differently abled candidates claims reservation must attach caste/Income Certificate) or equivalent grade under grading system, in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from the recognized Universities/Institutions.

Selection Process

Candidates who have qualified in respective Master’s degrees have to appear for the Entrance Test and those candidates who have qualified for UGC-NET (Category-1)/CSIR /DST/DBT /ICMR-JRF/SRF, INSPIRE Examinations are exempted from the Entrance Test. However, all such candidates have to appear for an interview along with the candidates who have qualified through the Entrance Test. Admissions shall be made as per the Ph.D. regulations governing the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy- 2024.

Details of Entrance Test:

• The Entrance Test will consist of one paper for 100 marks. It includes multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) including 30 percentage on Research Methodology and 70 percentage on Cognate subject. The duration of the test will be for 3 hours.
• A candidate securing a minimum of 50 marks out of 100 (45 marks out of 100 in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy Layer)/ Differently abled candidates) in the Entrance Test shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
• There shall be 30 percent weightage for the performance of the candidate in the interview and 70 percent weightage for entrance test marks for the entrance test qualified candidates.
• The merit list of candidates exempted from Entrance Test will be prepared on the basis of 30 percent of marks secured in the interview and 70 percent marks in from qualifying test scores.
• The successful completion of Entrance Test and appearance for the interview will only imply the eligibility of a candidate for admission to Ph.D. at the University, but shall not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. degree programme.
• Seats are not reserved separately for UGC-NET (Category-1) and Entrance Test qualified candidates.

• The candidates shall submit a hardcopy of the University on ог application to the Chairman/ Co-ordinator of the concerned Departments along with required enclosures on or before 27.05.2026.
• The application fee of Rs. 1700/- for GM candidates and Rs. 850/-, for SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy Layer)/ Differently abled candidates with income limit of 2.5 lakhs shall be paid online (SBI Collect) to “The Finance Officer, Tumkur University, Tumakuru”, and a copy of the same shall be enclosed along with the application.
