National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) invites application for PhD Admission 2026 (Jan).

Admission Categories

• Full-Time
  • Full time presence during the course
• Part Time
  • 30 days presence in the campus in each academic year

Eligibility Criteria

• For Ph.D. Programme in Law
  • Minimum 55% marks or Equivalent Grade in LL.M. for General & 50% for SC/ST/OBC/ EWS/DifferentlyAbled
• For Inter-disciplinary Ph.D.
  • Minimum 55% marks or Equivalent Grade in any stream of PostGraduation for General & 50% for SC/ST/OBC/ EWS/ DifferentlyAbled

Selection Process

• In view of the UGC public notice dated March 27, 2024, based on the marks obtained in UGC-NET Examination, the following categories of candidates shall be considered eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme:
  • Category-1: Candidates qualified for the award of JRF and appointment as Assistant
    Professor
  • Category-2: Candidates qualified for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
    Category-3: Qualified for admission to Ph.D. only.
• The JRF-qualified (Category-1) students are to be admitted into the Ph.D. programme based on an interview as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for the Award of Ph.D. Degree), Regulations, 2022 .
• For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3, 70% weightage shall be given for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes.
• Ph.D. admission shall be based on the combined merit of NET marks and the marks obtained in the viva voce/ interview.
• The candidates qualified for appearing in the viva are required to submit a preliminary synopsis of 8-10 pages of the proposed research work, and it is to be submitted along with the application form.
• Candidates for Part-Time Ph.D. shall submit a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) from the appropriate authority in the organization where the candidate is employed clearly stating the following: (a) the candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a parttime basis, (b) his/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research, and (c) if required, he/she will be relieved from the duty to complete the course work.

Application Process

• Soft copy of the Application Form should be sent to phd.admission@nusrlranchi.ac.in on or before 15/02/2026 along with the synopsis of the proposed research work.
• Hard copy of the same with required enclosures should be sent to ‘The Registrar, At Nagri, P.O. Bukru, Ranchi Patratu Road, Kanke, Ranchi – 834006 on or before 23/02/2026.
• The application envelope should bear the superscription “Application for Admission to the Doctoral Programme”

• Last date of submission of soft copy of application form: 15 February, 2026
• Last date of submission of hard copy of application form: 23 February, 2026
