Eligibility
Physics
- MSc in Physics or BSc with 4 Yrs (8-Semester) in Physics
Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences
- MSc in Physics / Chemistry (with Biology at 10+2 level) or
- MSc in Life Sciences (with Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or
- BSc with 4 Yrs (8-Semester) in Physics / Chemistry / Biology or
- M. Tech in Biotechnology (with PCMB at 10+2 level)
Application Procedure
- All eligible students must apply exclusively through the online portal. The link for the application is available on SINP website.
- All candidates must apply through the online portal, providing their hall ticket number/rank/percentile marks from national level qualification tests (JGEEBILS/NET/GATE etc.).
- SINP reserves the full right to select or not select a candidate at any stage of the selection process.
Selection Procedure
- Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their previous academic records and performance in the following nationwide screening tests:
- For Physics: CSIR/UGC NET (December 2023 onwards), GATE (2023 – 2025) in Physics, JEST 2025
- For Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences: JGEEBILS (Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences) conducted by NCBS-TIFR, CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR NET, GATE
- No Additional Written Test: SINP will not conduct an additional written test during the selection process.
- Interview: A shortlist of candidates will be published on the SINP webpage and candidates will also be informed by email. Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews, with the option for “Online” mode for Experimental Physics and Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences.
- Final Selection: The final selection of candidates will be based on their past academic records and performance in the interviews. Selected candidates will be informed via email and through an announcement on the SINP webpage.
Fellowships and Benefits
- Selected students will be admitted as Junior Research Fellows (JRF) of SINP.
- Fellowships:
- Rs. 37,000/- per month for JRF.
- Rs. 42,000/- per month for SRF.
- Tenure: 4 years, extendable to the 5th year. Yearly renewals and 5th-year extensions are subject to satisfactory performance.
- Additional Benefits: Contingency, HRA, Medical benefits, etc., are provided as per existing rules.
- Hostel Accommodation: Limited hostel accommodations are available.
