Eligibility Criteria

A candidate seeking admission to Ph.D. programme must meet the following academic criteria:

  • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Note: A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent grade may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC-A & BC-B (non-creamy layer of Haryana), differently-abled candidates, or those from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of Haryana state.

Application Process

  • The candidate shall apply for admission to Ph.D. programme through a prescribed form available on the University Website www.igu.ac.in.
  • Candidates shall apply for admission to the Ph.D. programme through online mode on the University website www.igu.ac.in. The applicant must deposit the prescribed processing fee of Rs. 2000/- for General Category candidates, Rs. 500/- (for SC/ST/BC/Differently abled candidates of Haryana only) & USD $50/-for Foreign candidates through online mode. The SC/ST/BC/Differently-abled belonging to the State other than Haryana will be treated as General Category candidates for all purposes.
  • Separate application forms must be filled out for each subject.
  • An applicant who is a regular employee must submit the application form through his/her employer. If the applicant joins the service after submitting the application form, he/she must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his/her employer at the time of Counselling.

Selection Process

  • Seats shall primarily be filled up from exempted category candidates -viz., UGC-JRF or Joint CSIR-UGC JRF (with validity period)/UGC-NET or Joint CSIR-UGC NET/Teacher Fellowship holder/DST Inspire fellow/GATE/GPAT (with validity period) etc.
  • The vacant seats, if any, out of exempted category candidates shall be filled through Entrance Test.
  • The NET candidates under exempted category will be declared eligible in the following three categories:
    • Category-1: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D. with JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor.
    • Category-2: Eligible for (i) admission to Ph.D. without JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor.
    • Category-3: Eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor.

Note: The marks obtained in category II & III will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D.

The admission in Ph.D. programme under exempted category shall be made in the following order of preference:

  • The JRF-qualified candidates as per Category-1 above along with all fellowship holders under UGC-JRF or Joint CSIR-UGC JRF (with validity period)/ Teacher fellowship holder/DST Inspire fellow (with validity period)/GATE (with validity period)/GPAT (with validity period) etc. will be admitted into the Ph.D. programme based on an interview.
  • For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3 above, the admission shall be made as per the following merit score criteria:
    • 70% weightage will be given for test scores and
    • 30% weightage for performance in interview

Admission Through Entrance Test

  • Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, shall conduct an Entrance Test for subjects where UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF is not conducted such as Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hotel Management etc. as per the schedule notified annually and for other departments subjects to availability of vacant seats after the completion of admission procedure laid down above.
  • The syllabus for the entrance test will be decided by the concerned Teaching Department through the Departmental Committee (DC).
  • The test will consist of:
    • Question Format: 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark.
    • Duration: 90 minutes. To qualify, candidates must secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test. Admission will be based on merit, calculated as follows:
    • Weightage: 70% from the entrance test and 30% from the interview/viva voce.

Note: A relaxation of 5% marks (from 50% to 45%) in the entrance test will be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/BC-A & BC-B (Non-Creamy Layer), Differently-abled categories, and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of Haryana.
