Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Full-time Research Scholar
- Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, in the appropriate discipline from any recognized University/Institute, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded or minimum equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) as defined by AICTE/UGC or any other competent body as the case may be.
- A relaxation of 5% or equivalent grade point in the minimum eligibility shall apply to the applicant belonging to the categories of “SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/MBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS/Differently abled persons” or those who had obtained their Master’s Degree before 19th September 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace marks procedure. Applicants who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade B in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and completing M.Phil. degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to a Ph.D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated program. A relaxation of 5% or equivalent grade point in the minimum eligibility shall be allowed to the applicant belonging to the categories of “SC/ST/OBC (Non- Creamy Layer)/ MBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS/Differently abled persons”.
- A person whose M. Phil. Dissertation has been evaluated and viva-voce are pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of the same institute, where ever applicable.
- Applicants possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program.
- Applicants for full time research program shall preferably be permitted having sponsorship/assistantship/fellowship/any financial support from university/state or national level agency, etc. However, applicants without any financial support as above shall not be disqualified to take admission to Full time PhD program and shall be admitted under Self Sponsored Category. The research scholar admitted in this category need to be available in the Institute/Department on daily basis like other Full Time research scholars and shall be eligible for leave as per the provisions contained in Regulation.
Eligibility for Part-time Research Scholar
In addition to the educational qualifications mentioned above, the applicant must belong to at least one of the Part Time Research Scholar category defined in Regulations. Besides, applicant needs to prove the following to the satisfaction of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC):
- Permission of the employer in writing to the applicant, to pursue a Ph.D. program alongwith his/her regular duties in the organization he/she is employed.
- Availability of all facilities for pursuing research at the applicant’s parent organization/place of work, in the chosen field of research.
- Certificate issued by the employer to allow him/her to fulfill the residential requirement during course work and contact days with the supervisor after completion of the course work as notified by University from time to time.
- In addition to the above, the local applicant (working and residing within 50 km radius from the university/research center where he/she is seeking admission) may be relieved from the residential requirement during course work. However, to avail of this benefit, the applicant must submit a certificate from the employer that he/she shall be allowed to attend the classes of the course work and complete other requirements of Degree while discharging the normal official duties. - The applicant is mandatorily required to submit either Form 2(a)/Form 2(b) (only for University faculty and staff/University project staff) or Form 2(c) (all other applicants) as per his/her applicability (Annexure -2).
Admission Procedure
- In all Ph.D. programs, the admission shall be granted as per Rajasthan Technical University, Kota ordinance and regulations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and the subsequent modifications thereof. The RTU-DAT-2025 entrance examination shall be conducted at the premises of RTU, Kota only.
- List of the applicants, eligible for entrance examination will be displayed only on the RTU DAT-2025 website and no individual communication will be made. The applicants are advised to visit regularly on the RTU website for the schedule of RTU-DAT examination and other updated information.
- The applicants shall not be paid any TA/DA for appearing in the written test/ interview. No stay arrangements shall be made by the University for appearing in the examination/interview.
Entrance Examination for RTU-DAT
- The entrance examination for RTU-DAT shall consist of 100 objective type multiple choice questions of two-and-a-half-hour duration in which a set of 50 questions will be based on for Research Methodology (60 Minutes duration) and another set of 50 questions for Specialization paper (90 Minutes duration). The syllabus for Research Methodology and Specialization papers are available on the DAT-2025 website.
- The result of the entrance examination of the qualified candidates will be displayed on the RTU-DAT-2025 website. The candidates who obtain at least 50% marks in the entrance examination (i.e., 50 marks out of the maximum total marks 100 in both the components of the entrance exam taken together) will be declared as qualified for the interview. Provided that a relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to “SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers)/MBC (Non-Creamy layers)/EWS/Differently-abled category” in the RTU-DAT examination to qualify for the interview (i.e., 45 marks out of the Maximum total marks 100 in both the components of the entrance exam taken together).
Interview
- All the qualified candidates of the RTU-DAT-2025 examination shall be invited for an interview before the DRC on the notified date. No separate communication in this regard shall be sent to the individual candidate.
- On a notified date, the DRC shall interview the invited applicants in the order of merit of RTU-DAT entrance examination. The candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area/plan through a presentation (approx.15 minutes duration) before DRC.
Final Merit List
- The final merit list of the candidates in individual specialization shall be prepared by the concerned DRC on the basis of aggregate marks obtained in entrance examination and interview as prescribed in Regulations.
- The candidate shall be allotted supervisor by DRC in the order of merit. Preference of the candidate for supervisor shall be considered as far as possible. However, recommendations of the DRC regarding allotment of supervisor and research centre shall be final and binding. DRC will allot the supervisor on the basis of specialization of supervisor, interest area of the applicant and mutual consent of supervisor and applicant.
- The final list of selected candidates for admission shall be displayed on the web-portal after due approval of the competent authority. The university reserves the right to modify/ amend/ alter the procedure/ process mentioned above at any stage and without any further notice.
- University reserves the right not to fill all the vacant seats in the absence of suitable applicants and/or non-availability of supervisor in the chosen area of research as decided by DRC. Merely qualifying RTU-DAT examination and/or appearing in the interview do not entitle the applicant for admission to the PhD program.
- The reservation in the Ph.D. program shall be as per the Rajasthan State Government Reservation Policy. Applicants desirous of taking admission in the OBC/MBC/EWS category should have a valid certificate of the non-creamy layer as per the norms of the Government of Rajasthan.
- If any Scholarship/ Assistantship/ Fellowship is available, it will be provided to full- time (FT.1) Ph.D. applicants as per the prevailing RTU norms at the time of admission. Details of the University/Institute fellowship are given in Annexure-1. Applicants of the FT.1 category are advised to refer to the Annexure-1 before exercising his/her choice. Apart from University fellowship, full time PhD scholars may also get the AICTE Doctoral Fellowship (ADF), if he/she fulfil the required criterion.
Application Process
- The applicants can apply online through the RTU DAT -2025 website by accessing link https://rtu.ac.in/index/DAT-2025/.
- Candidates are required to take the printout of the application form after final submission (which will be generated by the web portal) and attach the self-attested photocopies of all the relevant documents to submit to DRC at the time of interview. The application form with relevant documents will also be required for verification at the time of reporting at Institute/ Research Center. A reporting institute is where the admission is given to the candidate.
- The hardcopy of the application form is not required to be submitted to the DAT- 2025 office or RTU Kota.
- If an applicant wishes to apply for more than one specialization/ department, he/she shall have to submit the separate application/registration fee.
- An applicant who has applied for more than one specialization under the same department shall be asked to give his/her preference of specialization and supervisor at the time of interview by concerned DRC, and after interview if he/she is appearing in the merit list of more than one specialization shall be allotted seat/supervisor only in one specialization depending upon the applicant’s preference and availability of consenting supervisor. The decision of the DRC in this regard shall be final and binding.
