BRIC-NIPGR will take a total 29 Ph.D. students in the Academic Year 2025-26.

About NIPGR

BRIC-National Institute of Plant Genome Research, is an Autonomous Research Institution, funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and conducts basic and applied research in the frontier areas of plant biology.

About NIPGR PhD Program

The Ph. D. Programme of the Institute is launched in every year. This is a long term training programme of the Institute leading to Ph.D. degree of Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, in addition of short term training programmes that the Institute organizes periodically for which the scientists of the other institutes are eligible.
The scholars (who have JRF of CSIR/UGC/DBT exam) are admitted to this programme on the basis of a national level competitive examination and interviews from amongst a large number of applicants all over the country.
The selected scholars are required to do first course work for a period of six months, which is followed by research work on different areas of Plant Biology & Biotechnology in various laboratories.

Eligibility Criteria

The Institute invites online applications from candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. or equivalent degree (by August 31, 2025) in Life Sciences/Biotechnology and/or in related disciplines with minimum 55% marks [a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, will be allowed for those belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and PWD, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991], and have qualified national level test for pursuing Doctor of Philosophy degree including a doctoral fellowship test conducted by University Grants Commission or Council for Scientific and Industrial Research or Department of Biotechnology for JRF (with a Junior Research Fellowship activation valid up to December 31, 2025), for conducting advanced research in the frontier areas of Plant Biology such as, Developmental Biology, Genome Analysis and Molecular Mapping, Molecular Mechanism of Abiotic Stress Responses, Plant-Microbe/Insect Interactions and Plant Immunity, Nutritional Genomics, Genetic Engineering, Genome Editing and Molecular Breeding for Crop Improvement, Computational Biology, Structure Biology and other emerging areas in the field. Reservations are as per statutory norms.

Selection Process

The selection will be made on the basis of interview/Viva-Voce.

The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D. program in academic affiliation with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad. BRIC-NIPGR will provide hostel accommodation to selected candidates (subject to availability).

BRIC-NIPGR will not provide any travel expenses to the candidates appearing for Interview/ Viva-Voce.

Reservation of the seats will be as follows:

27% for OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 10% for EWS and 5% for person with disability (PWD) as per the reservation policy of the Government of India (with minimum disability to the extent of 40%) in pursuance of Provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
Reservation of 5% seats in respect of PWD candidates shall be done horizontally, as per the Government of India Guidelines/Policy.
All SC/ST/OBC/EWS and PWD candidates are required to submit a certificate in respect of their claims from the authorized officers as notified by the Government of India for the purpose from time to time.
