National Law University Tripura (NLUT) invites applications in the prescribed form for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme for the academic year 2024-25 in Law and Interdisciplinary subjects.

Eligibility
- Applications is invited from candidates who have qualified UGC NET June 2024 Exam and have been found eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme under category 2 and 3, vide UGC Public Notice [No.F.4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/1406-48], dated March 27, 2024. Such candidates shall be exempted from NLUT-DRAT. For such candidates, 70% weightage will be given to UGC NET marks and 30% weightage to marks that will be obtained in the Ph.D. admissions interview/viva-voce (research proposal presentation in case of NLU Tripura), for admission to the Ph.D. programme for AY 2024-25.
- All other candidates who are not covered in point above, shall appear for all India level NLUT-DRAT as per the details of this notification for admission to the Ph.D. programme for AY 2024-25.
Minimum Qualification for PhD Law
- Candidates having a 5-year/ 10-semester/ 15-trimester bachelor’s degree programme in Law [LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)] through regular mode from a recognized Indian University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC (non- creamy layer)/PWD candidates);
- Candidates having a 3-year/ 6-semester/ 9-trimester bachelor’s degree programme in Law [LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)] (following a 3 (or 4)- year bachelor’s degree through regular mode from a recognized Indian University having secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed (70% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates), with an additional condition of at least two years of work experience and at least four research papers published in the UGC-Care List Group I and Group II;
- Candidates having a Masters in Law degree (LL.M.) through regular mode from a recognized Indian University having secured an aggregate of at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates);
- Candidates having passed the Solicitors Examination conducted by the Bombay Incorporated Law Society and having a completed a bachelor’s in Law [LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)] degree from a recognized University through regular mode; or Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees in (a), (b) and (c) shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks or equivalent grade prior to the date of commencement of the Ph.D.
Minimum Qualification for PhD Inter-disciplinary
- Candidates having a Master’s degree in any discipline through regular mode with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD) and a 3 (or 5)-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University through regular mode; or
- Candidates having passed the Company Secretaryship examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and been awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and a having completed a bachelor’s degree programme in Law (LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)) from a recognized Indian University through regular mode; or
- Candidates having passed the Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and been awarded Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and having completed a bachelor’s degree programme in Law (LL.B./LL.B. (Hons.)) from a recognized Indian University through regular mode; or
- Candidates Obtained a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Management Studies, or Computer Science, from any recognised Indian University with 55% marks and have had at least two years of work experience or Ph.D. in any discipline.
- Provided that candidates in their final year of study in the respective degrees shall be eligible to apply, subject to the candidate securing the minimum marks or equivalent grade prior to the date of commencement of the Ph.D.
Selection Process
Admission Process 01:
Applications are invited by the eligible candidates who have cleared UGC NET June 2024 and found eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme under categories 02 and 03 vide UGC Public Notice [No.F.4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/1406-48], dated March 27, 2024. Such candidates shall fill the online applications (exempted from Entrance Test), and shall appear for Research Proposal Presentation as per the schedule provided in the detailed advertisement.
Admission Process 02
NLUT- Doctoral Research Admission Test (NLUT- DRAT) The admission to NLUT for Ph.D. program shall be a three-pronged process, namely:
- Step 1: The University shall conduct a NLUT- Doctoral Research Admission Test (NLUT- DRAT) for the candidates who have applied for the admission in Ph.D. program in NLUT.
- Step 2: Submission and Evaluation of a Research Proposal (SERP)
- Step 3: Oral Presentation of a Research Proposal (OPRP)
Candidates securing not less than 50% marks on the aggregate in the written test will qualify for the process of Step 2 and Step 3- as mentioned above- for evaluation of their Research Proposal and making an oral presentation before the Panel of Experts on the date specified by the University.
